Business Analyst Intern

Rolka Loube • Harrisburg, PA

Rolka Loube is a government contractor that works primarily with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), administering the interstate fund for Telecommunications Relay Services (TRS). The fund serves to compensate providers of TRS, which encompasses a range of services that make phone calls accessible for those with hearing and speech disabilities. To support this endeavor, Rolka Loube manages an extensive data warehousing environment of call records, fund transactions, and supplemental documents from over a decade of operation. As an intern with the company's data team, I have helped maintain this environment through the implementation of data lineage methods, creating detailed documentation on database components and dependency relationships. I also regularly field ad hoc requests to retrieve, process, and report on data from within the system. This involves the construction of SQL queries to efficiently access and aggregate relevant information, alongside the use of visualization software such as Power BI to organize it into actionable reports. This position has been immensely beneficial for honing and expanding my range of technical skills, and gaining familiarity with industry-standard systems for data management and analysis.

June 2024 – August 2024

Data Clerk

PA Fish and Boat Commission • Harrisburg, PA

This was a temporary position at the commission's headquarters, within the Division of Licensing and Registration. Day-to-day tasks revolved primarily around processing applications for boat registration and titling, sent in from across the state. Information from paper documents had to be digitized and entered into a central database, matching vehicles and owners with existing records to support data lineage processes. In order to uphold state regulations and ensure proper collection of fees, applications were checked thoroughly for errors and invalid instances were reported for follow-up. I maintained close communication with supervisors throughout this process, checking in when needed to resolve complex issues swiftly. I also filed regular reports to document my performance and maintain consistent internal record-keeping. This experience provided valuable exposure to interacting with government systems and protocols in my work.
